A Passover Blessing

  • Print

As a young boy walks through Jerusalem on Market Day during Passover, he comes across a little girl, begging for food. Taking pity on her, he gives her money to eat and continues on to the temple, where he captivates his audience with the power of his speech. This young boy is Jesus, and his speech teaches Ruth about the comfort of faith, and shows the power of prayer.

Based on the Bible verse..."I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him."   1Samuel: 1:27

"Jayne Cox presents a playful and tender re-telling of a well-known biblical story in A Passover Blessing. Her rendering brings a fresh perspective to the compassionate young Jesus. Reading A Passover Blessing transported me back to old Jerusalem, as I walked the cobblestone alleys and the dusty roads towards the Temple, surrounded by the busy sounds of the market place. It filled me with a longing to feel the very hand of God on my own face and watch Him at work amongst His people. It made me want to search for the needy, the hurting and often overlooked members of society, and left me yearning to appreciate the beauty and value in all of God’s creations. "

Jayne Talks About "A Passover Blessing"
The thought of writing another book  never entered my mind, until friends and family began to ask me, “When are you going to start your next book?” A Miracle in Bethlehem had experienced a successful first Christmas season 2008, and I was enjoying a restful January after a busy book-signing schedule. In early February 2009, I sat in my bedroom and spoke to God in prayer.  That night, while drifting off to sleep, the first two lines of A Passover Blessing began repeating in my mind in a musical way.  I got up, grabbed a pad off my desk, and wrote down the two lines.  As the words kept repeating in my mind, the next two lines came to me in the same musical pattern.  I was more than surprised that God was communicating to me His desire to work on our next story together.  I got up again, wrote down the second two lines, then took a small flashlight, the pad and pen back to bed with me, pulling the covers over my head, so not to wake up my husband.  I fell asleep with the flashlight next to my pillow.
The first four lines of A Passover Blessing were communicated to me that night.  During the days that followed, the story unveiled in front of me. When I needed God’s help, I would say out loud, “God, I am having trouble right here”, and in a matter of minutes, the verse would smooth out and the right words formed together.  I felt God’s presence throughout the entire writing process, and I have faith in knowing that He will continue to support me in all my future writing endeavors.
